Essex Radio
In September
1981, listeners in South Essex got their own ILR station.
The opening of this station gave Capital Radio some more competition,
as listeners to the East of their area could also receive Essex Radio.
Several voices well known to offshore listeners were to be heard on Essex
Radio including:
Terry Davis, Keith Rogers, Dave Gregory and Andy Anderson.
The format of the station, I thought, was a winner, 50% chart, 50% oldies.
It really was a breath of fresh air to listen to, and the jingle package
used by the station when it opened was excellent.
I hope to post some of the jingles here in the future, along with
"Listen To Essex", the station's main theme.
In those days, audio compression was not used and, I think,
the station sounded all the better for it.
