Classic FM
The UK's
first national commercial station INR1 was Classic FM
The first tests were recordings of bird song
and these were also used in 1999 by Digital One for their tests on Digital
Radio.
Classic FM became popular very quickly but sadly,
they chose to use "compression" on the audio from day one.
This does make listening in a car easier, but for serious listening at home,
the audio quality does not sound very nice.
Even on Digital Radio the audio is still compressed.
