When the
Government outlawed the offshore stations in 1967 the BBC were aksed
to provide a replacement pop music service.
Originally it was planned to call the new service Radio 247,
but was called Radio One instead.
The old
Light Programme was re-named Radio Two,
the Third Programme Radio Three and the Home Service was called Radio Four.
Radio One
opened on Saturday, the 30th September 1967, at 07:00.
Radio Two started broadcasting at 05:30 on the same day,
and Radio One carried this programme until 07:00.
You
