BBC Radio Frequency Changes 1978

Following a meeting of broadcasters in 1975 held in Geneva,
a plan was drawn up for Medium Wave.
Channel spacing was to be 9Khz and the frequencies were all to be a multiple of 9.
The sound file "World Service DX Club" tells it all very well.
VHF as it was then correctly known was not affected by the changes.

All these recordings were made in London. Brookman's Park did not carry the
Radio One and Radio Two distribution tests, so the Radio One recording is very poor.
it was taken, if I remember correctly, from Droitwich.

In fact Brookman's Park was one of the last transmitters to be switched on,
after the start of programmes.
Luckily,Radio Medway from Wrotham did carry the Radio Two test on VHF.

It was originally intended that the new through-the-night service
"You, the night and the music" on Radio Two
would begin on the night of the changes 22nd - 23rd November 1978
and would be broadcast on VHF only that night.
Unfortunately, due to industrial action it wasn't introduced until January 1979
